Since Forza 2 was delayed until next year I've been playing the next best thing on the 360, the backward compatibly (BC) Forza 1. Take note that this game still has some BC issues on the 360 which can affect enjoyment. The two that really stuck out for me were framerate and sound issues. On some tracks the framerate can take a dive, and this seems to be worst using the in-car views while cars are in your rear view mirror. The second problem is with the engine sounds. Sometimes your car engine will go silent, which happens every now and again but could be disruptive if you were using manual transmission.
The gameplay is pretty good. The cars handle realistically but I'm unable to compare it directly to Gran Turismo since I haven't played those in ages. Graphics hold up fairly well, but you miss out on that extra detail that the next generation brings. Again, the framerate is nowhere near Project Gotham solid. Unlike GT there are exotics from Ferrari and Porsche which is a good addition, but more customizability on them would've been nice.
There are some 'underground' style tracks that I do not like. This are usually set in the night driving through real streets with trailers and other objects sometimes taking over some of the track. I hope they leave these out of the sequel, these should be kept in Project Gotham.
Sadly, this is the only deep racing game to hold us over until Q1 2007 when Forza 2 is scheduled to be released. We want next gen!
